History of Smithtown Robotics Team 810
The Mechanical Bulls

Smithtown Robotics Team 810 became involved in FIRST in 2001, when it met its first challenge of designing a functioning robot which must perform specific tasks to compete in a game in alliances with other robots from schools all over the country and/or world in the 2002 Game – Zone Zeal.  The team continues to design and build robots that compete in the annual FIRST competitions with the help of its booster club, parents, teachers, mentors, alumnae, sponsors, and community.

2007 Game – Rack ‘N’ Roll

The object of the game was to place inflatable plastic pool tubes on the center goal structure and/or having robots in their home zone and not in contact with the playing field at the end of the match.

The team participated in the 2007 SBPLI Long Island Regional (3/29/07-3/31/07).

The team was successful in building a strong defensive robot that was useful in preventing other teams from scoring during competition.

2006 Game – Aim High

The object of the game was to score balls in the center or corner goals and/or having robots on your platform or ramp at the end of the match.

The team participated in the 2006 Florida Regional (3/9/06-3/11/06).

2005 Game – Triple Play

The object of the game was to place tetras on or into goals, getting 3 goals in a row capped with tetras and/or having all 3 robots on an alliance in their end zone at the end of the match.

The team participated in the 2005 SBPLI Long Island Regional (3/17/05-3/19/05) and the 2005 Championship Event in Atlanta, Georgia (4/21/05-4/23/05).

During the 2005 competition the team was awarded with the “Long Island Radio Shack Innovation in Control Award”.

2004 Game – Frenzy Raising the Bar

The object of the game was to deliver balls into goals, capping the goals with larger balls, and/or having robots having from the pull-up bar at the end of the round.

The team participated in the 2004 SBPLI Long Island Regional (3/18/04-3/20/04), the 2004 Philadelphia Regional (3/25/04-3/27/04) and the 2004 Championship Event in Atlanta, Georgia (4/15/04-4/17/04).

During the 2004 Competition the team was awarded with the “Long Island Inspiration Award”.

2003 Game – Stack Attack

The object of the game was to score points by acquiring and stacking plastic storage containers in the team’s end of the playing field.

The team participated in the 2003 SBPLI Long Island Regional (3/20/03-3/22/03) and the 2003 Chesapeake Regional (3/13/03-3/15/03).

During the 2003 competition the team was awarded the “Long Island Engineering Inspiration Award”.

2002 Game – Zone Zeal

The object of the game was to place soccer balls into goals and position robots and/or goals in the scoring zones at the end of the match.

The team participated in the 2002 SBPLI Long Island Regional (3/14/02-3/16/02), the 2002 New York City Regional (3/21/02-3/23/02) and the 2002 Championship Event at Epcot Center, Florida (4/25/02-4/27/02).

During the 2002 competition the team was awarded with the “NY Rookie All-Star”, “Long Island Highest Rookie Seed” and “NY Highest Rookie Seed”.
